Ray Romano
Ray Romano is an American comedian and actor known for stand-up rooted in observational, family-centered material and for starring as Ray Barone on the television sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond. He grew up in Forest Hills, Queens, and began performing stand-up in New York clubs in the early 1980s while studying to be an accountant and working part-time jobs. After deciding to pursue comedy full time in 1987, he won a citywide comedy contest in 1989 and made his first national TV appearance on MTV’s Half-Hour Comedy Hour in 1990. A 1995 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman helped lead to the sitcom, which premiered in 1996. Romano won the 2002 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and later voiced Manny in the Ice Age films.
