It follows Dan Coyle Jr., a failed amateur boxer from a long line of accomplished fighters, as family pressure, his brother’s Olympic success, and a crucial bout push him away from the ring. The production premiered as part of the inaugural year of Show-in-a-bag and later became a 10th anniversary tour starring Aonghus ’g McAnally. It won Best Actor and the Bewley’s Little Gem Award at Dublin Fringe Festival in 2010 and was nominated for Best New Play at the Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards in 2012. Rise Productions says it toured extensively in Ireland and internationally, including Scotland and Finland.
